The Modern Day Milkmaid: Behind The Scenes at Cruze Dairy Farm

What’s a typical day in the life of a Southern Living photographer? Well, for one, there is no typical day. No two shoots are the same, and the stories that our photogs come home with — well, they are always interesting. Here on “Southern Snapshot,” we’ll bring you more of their perspective.
First up, a snippet from staff photographer Art Meripol. Recently Art spent the day with the South’s cutest dairymaid, Colleen Cruze at her farm in Knoxville, Tennessee.
In between shooting Colleen and her cows, he learned learning all about her ice cream making, buttermilk churning process.

So what did Art take away from the farm life? Always photograph the pregnant cows over the milking cows. “They are all fat and glowing,” Cruze told him. Two: You don’t have to compromise style for country living. “I thought she was all dressed up for the shoot, but that’s just how she is every day.” And the memory of one of the best ice cream sandwiches out there. “It was the salty caramel flavor,” he says. “A real treat.”

You should try the Shiny Peach…peach ice cream with moonshine. Cruze Dairy is the best!
With all that ground and plenty time I am seeing a daffodil maze or patterns like the Nazca lines or Druid symbols, even a yellow and white snake in the spring grass.
