Raise the ante on your water-cooler talk. Here are five things happening in the South you ought to know about this week.
Tasia Malakasis’ First Cookbook. We spent every free moment this weekend breezing through our advance copy of Tasia’s Table, the first book by Tasia Malakasis of Belle Chevre. The charming queen of goat cheese mixes recipes with anecdotes of life in the fromagerie for a read that’s as sweet and inviting as her ubiquitous cheeses. This Friday, September 7, Malakasis will be signing copies at The Wine Cellar in Huntsville, Alabama.
Diet Coke’s New T-shirt Designed by a Miami Designer. Designers love it (Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld has been known to drink up to 10 cans a day!), and models drink it down like water. Now, further aligning itself as the go-to drink of the fashion world, Diet Coke hosted a Diet Coke Young Designer Challenge in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Miami designer Gustavo Alonso won the competition and his Diet Coke T-shirt will be sold at Target stores starting today, September 3.
American Aquarium’s New Album. American Aquarium recorded its sixth album Burn. Flicker. Die. (out August 28) in eight days with Jason Isbell. With its sixth album, the Raleigh band known for its barroom anthems delivers a catchy roots-rock memoir about coming down from the rock ‘n roll life.
A Must-Have Jewelry Collaboration. Jacksonville natives (and sisters) Danielle and Jodie Snyder of Dannijo made a name for themselves with their larger-than-life bib necklaces that’s had stylish gals everywhere fawning since its release. Calypso St. Barth, a brand synonymous with breezy-coastal wear, collaborated with the trendsetters on an 11-piece collection of statement-making baubles available now. You’ll find earrings, necklaces, and bracelets decked out with mixed metals and rich jewel tones that are perfect for dressing up summer looks as we transition to fall.
Robert Earl Keen’s College Station, Texas Show. It’s been three decades since Robert Earl Keen got his start playing on his College Station porch with then-neighbor Lyle Lovett. On Friday, September 7 the legend of Texas country returns to his college town while on his Ready For Confetti tour. Keen will headline the First Yell of the Aggies football season with Rick Trevino and Granger Smith. This is almost better than when he came to see us for our Biscuits & Jam session. Almost.
