Now that Thanksgiving has passed we welcome the official start of the merriest time of the year. For many of us that starts today with the picking of the perfect Christmas tree.
These images are were taken by Southern Living staff photographer Robbie Caponetto at the Middleburg Tree Farm of Virginia in Philomont, Virginia. If you are cutting down your own tree this weekend send us pictures of that or other holiday moments using #SouthernChristmas on Instagram and Twitter.

This is unbelievably similar to what my family does every Christmas. We all pile into my grandfather’s 30-something year old blue Chevrolet pickup truck and head out to the field. We chop down our own Christmas tree, put it in the house, and decorate it. I can’t wait for Christmas!
