Some of our favorite Southern chocolate makers are rolling out rich, creamy, and downright adorable seasonal offerings. What better excuse to indulge in peppermint-kissed chocolate and silky chocolate penguins? Go ahead, pretend they’re stocking stuffers (your secret is safe with us).
Nashville-based Olive and Sinclair recently released their Peppermint Bark (8 ounces for $15.99), a melding of dark chocolate, buttermilk white chocolate and mint candies. A few more gift-worthy confections follow, note that the price does not include shipping.
Consider a chocolate holiday figures, beautiful boxes of truffles, caramels or hand-painted holiday chocolates from Louisville’s Ghyslain Chocolat des Beaux Arts. Assortment options include a Six-Count Window Box for $12, a 12-Count Window Box for $22.50 and a beautiful 24-Count Brown Linen Box for $45. We love the Small Chocolate Penguin ($9), a hollow, 4-inch penguin filled with almonds.
Escazu Artisan Chocolates in Raleigh, NC, sources fine cacao from small farms, then roasts and grinds them on antique equipment in their workshop and store. The result is hand-crafted bars, truffles, confections that are perfect for the chocolate lover on your list. This month they’re offering a white chocolate candy cane with peppermint brittle sprinkled in, and pistachio “snowmen,” made from creamy ground pistachio butter and white chocolate encased in a delicious shell (a layer of dark and white chocolate) hand-painted with a snowman design.
All of the chocolates at Sucré in New Orleans are handcrafted in their New Orleans confection studio and available at their two shops (3025 Magazine Street in the garden district and Lakeside Mall; and online). This month they’re offering an amazing collection of rich, single-bean Maracaibo ganache with a hint of peppermint paired with a 64% Madagascan ganache and finished with vanilla and exotic spice (15 pieces, $30).
