We know how much our president loves a good burger. We’ve seen him stop at small city after small city and pick up a juicy, meaty bite from local burger icons. In celebration of his upcoming inauguration, we want to show you, in delicious detail, how to take this backyard basic to new heights.

First, start with a solid burger, like our Best Beef Burgers. Whip out your grill skillet (unless you live somewhere warm enough to actually grill outdoors), and make these simple patties yourself. Combining equal parts ground sirloin and ground chuck makes for a perfectly juicy flavor combination. Remember not to mash the burger into your skillet with a spatula, it’ll suck all the moisture out.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even make your own Homemade Hamburger Buns.

Then, pile on your favorite Southern toppings! Or follow one of our favorite twists!

Sun-dried Tomato-Pesto Burgers:
Stir 1 (3-oz.) package sun-dried tomato halves, chopped, and 1 garlic clove, pressed, into meat mixture. Proceed as directed. Top each burger with refrigerated pesto, sliced goat cheese, and sliced pepperoncini salad peppers.

Pineapple-Jalapeño Burgers:
Stir 1/3 cup pickled sliced jalapeño peppers, minced, into meat mixture. Proceed as directed. Grill 6 (1/4-inch-thick) pineapple slices over medium-high heat 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Top each burger with Cilantro-Jalapeño Cream, grilled pineapple, avocado slices, and a fresh cilantro sprig.

Pimiento Cheese-Bacon Burgers:
Stir 1/4 cup mixed chopped fresh herbs (such as basil, mint, and oregano) into meat mixture. Proceed as directed. Top each burger with pimiento cheese, cooked bacon slices, lettuce, and tomato slices.
