I love the updated traditional kitchen in the bungalow done by Lindsay Bierman. I’m at a point in my life where I like clean lines, no clutter and great flow. I’m cleaning out, pitching, and throwing and if I don’t absolutely love something and/or it doesn’t function well out it goes. It’s a process but can bring one clarity and peace of mind, which the kitchen as the heart of one’s home should be a place for. http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/the-modern-family-kitchen-00417000081175/

The Elegant White Kitchen is my favorite, hands down. It is classy and comfortable; nice clean lines without being too modern, it has retained a gracious traditional look. The dark wood top, floor, and chairs add a beautiful rich contrast. http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/white-kitchens-00400000057076/

I kept coming back to the Cottage Kitchen and I couldn’t figure out why – but then I realized it is almost an exact replica of my grandparents kitchen at their farmhouse (built in the 40s!). The clean colors and the functionality of the island in this kitchen allowing for prep-space, but keeping the grandchildren out the underneath their feet 🙂

I usually go for the dark, rich woods but this bright and clean look just works! I love the appliances as well. Stunning.

The 2012 Southern Living Idea House Kitchen is my favorite. Maybe it’s because I was fortunate to see the kitchen in person when I visited the house back in June. But I think, more than that, it’s because it combines modern touches with a farmhouse feel. I love the subway tiles with the shaker cabinets. And the pendant lights?! Be still my heart!! 🙂 Plus the kitchen opens up to a beautiful dining and living area so it really is the heart of the home…love that! I searched and searched, and I found my favorite kitchen. The first thing I love about this kitchen – the windows! A must have for me. Gone are the days of just a single window over the kitchen sink for me. I actually have two walls that are “wall-to-wall windows” over my countertops, and like the windows in this picture, I have no window treatments either. I love letting all the sunlight in, and it is nice to be able to enjoy a beautiful day while cooking. Just makes me so happy. Next thing, the Shaker-style cabinets! I love the white, so clean looking, and much space to boot. The mantel style range hood reaching up to the high ceilings is another favorite for me, and I actually have similar cabinets and a mantel style range hood as well. The kitchen does have a glass front cabinet as well for displaying (got that too). The Hardwood floors give the kitchen a warm feel and are lovely, another must have for me (got’em). The island with upholstered stools is an idea place for a meal for two, and the lantern lighting hanging over the island gives an elegant dining look to an informal dining space. There are so many things in this kitchen similar to my kitchen (mine is smaller) and that is why it is such a favorite for me. But of course, this kitchen still beats mine by a country mile. Now I must tell you, I probably have every issue of Southern Living Magazine back to 1976 (no joke), and I just received my March issue today. I will have to look back through my magazines, but if this picture was in a previous issue it just could have been the picture that inspired my kitchen design when my husband and I remodeled. Not sure, but could be. I get a lot of “my ideas” from Southern Living.

I love the built in mini-fridge, which I would use for wine storage. The docking station for easy access to recipe files stored on laptop would be a luxury. And with the oversized island for eating and working, I can imagine spending hours in the kitchen – happily. Finally, I love the color! My kitchens have always had neutral tones, and I think the blue would be a wonderful change. There is nothing about this kitchen I don’t love!

It’s the Cozy Cottage Kitchen for me because it fits my relaxed style and desire for lots of white. An eat-in kitchen design is also a must due to my informal dining style. The dark wood floor anchors it all and is a great contrast to all the light color. http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/cottagekitchen-makeover-decorating-tips-ideas-00417000073959/

The WARM kitchen has it all! An island is a must and this one is earthy, inviting, warm and says, “Spend time here.” The cabinets are light and say, “I am handsome and tall, I’m up in the clouds.” The stainless steel appliances say, “You can’t hurt me. Bring it on!” The window over the sink says, ” You are free, remember that!” The pop of red under the island says, “Always expect the unexpected here!” And the back splash says, I’m not just a comfy color, I am the definition of classy too!: OK, I’m in love……maybe you will be too. http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/kitchen-inspiration-00417000069836/page2.html

The Farm Fresh Kitchen…I’ve always been crazy about bead-board…the details here are wonderful. It is retro and so cute. The lighting is great and goes well with the theme. The yellow farm sink is so fresh. I’d love this kitchen in my house.

I’m in love with the “Crisp Kitchen”! For me, white cabinets will never go out of style, and apple green walls will always make a room feel delicious. Add the reclaimed hardwood floor and subway tile backsplash….it feels like I could just come right in and start making an apple pie.

Karen Turner and Stephanie Dudley are ladies after my own heart! Their redesigned farm kitchen is simple, yet functional. The huge farm sink, highlighted by the beautiful creamy yellow color rather than the traditional boring white, ties the entire color pallet together. The bench seat and the painted floor make for a picture perfect and inviting gathering place. http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/farm-kitchen-remodeling-ideas-00400000067080/page10.html

I like the family friendly kitchen. The open shelving makes easy acces to those big pots for cooking the soups, stews, pasta dishes for a big family. I am not sold on the all white kitchens which seem to be so popular. We live on a farm, and white is not a color anywhere in our home!

This is the Details with Character kitchen. I like the way the cabinets have detail on them. I like the darker floors with the white cabinet and the dark counter tops. The only thing I would have differently in my kitchen is a darker wood butcher block on the island and on each end of the island have (1) a bookshelf built in for my cookbooks and (2) a cabinet built in on the other end for my small appliances.
I like the way the cabinets look like furniture. I like the way it looks crisp and clean without being cold. I like the color of the paint; soft but there.I like the way the crown moulding finishes it off.
    Very well done.

The Updated Traditional Kitchen ( http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/the-updated-traditional-kitchen-00417000081172/ ) is absolutely beautiful and my favorite! The clean, crisp, airy feel of of this kitchen would appeal to both a gourmet cook, as well as a busy family. From the sleek silver straps on the range hood, to the clever dining space, to the splash of red in the roman shades, chairs and stove handles, the overall impression is very inviting. The positioning of the microwave is genius, tucked into the island as a drawer. And a mini-office space to boot, for those treasured family recipes or children’s homework! Perfect for anyone and everyone!

Ok this one is for all the marbles so let me get it just right. Or should I say this is for the all the marble I plan to put around that glorious sink and faucet I am going to win. I love the farm fresh kitchen. It’s light, airy, clean and that sink! I want to wash my children in that sink! I want to curl up in the fetal position and well never mind. The sink is the real gem in that kitchen. I also like the window awning for letting in light and air. I even like the painted wood floors. Despite my upbringing that painting a wood floor is sacrilege, the color and lines are refreshing and brighten the space.

On a logistical note- the videos do not work on my tablet. These days you can’t swing a cat without hitting a mobile web design firm so SL might want to look into that. I really wanted to see Lindsey Bierman speak and move in his own kitchen because I imagine he is just delightful.

The above link will take you to my favorite Southern Living Kitchen, the Family Friendly Style. I love everything about it. There’s plenty of room for family gatherings, and I like the lived in look of the rustic materials, I love recycled wood and especially barn wood.
I especially like the comfortable sitting area which flows outside to enjoy the beautiful views we have of the river and country side, not to mention the historic courthouse in the distance. The raised fireplace is the perfect size and no worry about little ones getting hurt.
I really appreciate the fact that if something accidentally drops and makes a ding it adds to the charm of a family home that can be loved for generations to come.I ‘ll say it again, I love everything about it, it’s perfect!

I spend a lot of time lately looking at kitchens for makeover ideas. There are dreamy ideas like the Blue and Gray. The Fresh, Open Kitchen Redo and the Small and Light kitchens would make the most sense because my area is small. But the one that stops me in my tracks in the Warm Kitchen with the wood, stone and that red island! My kitchen may be cramped but I’m not going to let that cramp my style. I will adapt! http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/kitchen-inspiration-00417000069836/page2.html

I absolutely LOVE the Updated Traditional Kitchen! The pops of color are just perfect and so chic! The different colors of paint on the cabinets verses the island and then the wood grain on the breakfast nook creates a wonderful look and contrast!
