Splurge: New appliances! Must have great appliances!
my splurge would be an apron sink. love the style.
Years and years ago an old boyfriend splurged for me and bought me a KitchenAid Mixer and a Cuisinart Food Processor for Christmas. This is something I never dreamed of owning and I was very surprised and very overwhelmed by the gift. I made him 13 dozen cookies each and every single week and had gone through a few of the hand mixers. His cookies were very important to him and he hated to watch the struggle I went through to mix them by hand. He was a construction builder and wood worker and refurbished old boats and he had the biggest “home garage” I have ever seen, that was completely full of every type of equipment a person could dream of having. So I think he totally got that your “equipment” made you or broke you and that his kitchen was no different than his garage. I seriously did not understand how much easier it would make my “cookie making” life until I used them. I would of never bought them for myself, but I am sure very grateful he did. So I would say that you need to splurge on really good “kitchen equipment” that you seriously use all the time.
My splurge would be a a professional gas cooktop or range for my husband who loves to cook!
I think your kitchen splurge should be what makes you feel the happiest in your own kitchen. I have lots of little splurges in my kitchen that my family is forever making fun of me for. From all of my little gadgets that all have specific uses to the electric salt and pepper grinders and everything in between including the pots and pans I have picked for one reason or another. When a friend or family need an item, they usually call me first to borrow because I probably have it hidden in there somewhere. I love everything I use in my kitchen. What I don’t love and would love to splurge on though is a kitchen remodel. I need more space and a better layout. I need my kitchen to work harder and smarter for me. In order to achieve this I believe my splurge is going to be the work of a good kitchen designer because I don’t have a lot of space and I need a very creative mind. I want to love my whole kitchen !
those pull out microwave oven draws or food warmer draws. how cool are those things?!
My splurge was a KitchenAid stand mixer. For a number of Christmases my friend and I hosted a holiday tea. I always made meringues, a tradition passed down from my proper English mother. For the first couple of years, I used a hand mixer, but one year after my dad gave me my Christmas check early, I went to the local outlet mall and bought a beautiful blue mixer. I loved the way the instructions told me to turn off the mixer if it started to get hot–like after an hour or so. I was sold. My daughter enjoyed using the mixer often enough that I told her I would buy her one when she moved into her own place. She did and I did–a beautiful grey machine which she uses often as she and her husband like to cook together and entertain friends. I am furnishing a small vacation home and am trying to make do with used mixers from thrift stores. Have been through three so far. Next vacation, I will “splurge” and buy a good stand mixer for this place.
My splurge was to have multiple spaces that I needed. My first idea was to have my island cabinets at bathroom height because I’m vertical challenged and it proves to be the best space for me while doing all my cutting and baking prep work. Very easy on the shoulders. I also love to cook so, a 5 burner stove with 2 ovens was a must have for our family. We also went with a beautiful farm sink that allows me to clean all the oversize pot & pans. This kitchen is the hardest working space in my house. For our family it was the best money & design possible.
While I certainly need a new light fixture over the table I would have to say I would splurge on a complete new kitchen. Mine has never been finished and is not big enough. I love all things “Kitchen”. I see a new pot or pan and I just have to have it, and kitchen gadgets are my weakness. I enjoy time in the kitchen and it would truly be a dream come true to be able to have a beautiful, comfortable, kitchen just once in my lifetime. So without a doubt I would absolutely splurge on a kitchen of my dreams. And being practible, great kitchens and baths add so much value to a home, if heaven forbid you ever have to sell.
A large. Very large. Cutting board that is solid oak. Owning a nice cutting board is underrated. They can be Expensive but very helpful when trying to chop lots of veggies for one meal. Kitchen aid mixers are lifesavers too. I have to agree with above posts
my kitchen aid mixer was my biggest splurge—it used to be my appliances in my home but when I retired and moved down to Myrtle Beach S.C. I had to sell my home and my dream kitchen. Now I am trying to make my rental kitchen and drab dining room “mine” This would definately do it—so please pick me and make my home not not cookie cutter like everyone elses in my development Thanks
New placemats and tea towels are my favorite splurge! You don’t have to spend alot of money and new textiles instantly freshen the look and help change the mood from season to season.
the kitchen splurge I enjoyed the most was my combination microwave, convection and regular oven.. It is very handy for the 2 of us.
My splurge is definitely my KitchenAid stand mixer with lots of accessories because it allows me to be confident to tackle even complicated recipes that I might not otherwise try. My home made pizza crust has become legendary and my kids are constantly asking for home baked goods! My next wish is for the ice cream maker attachment.
My biggest splurge was a dishwasher. When my husband and I were first married, we lived in a tiny apartment with a tinier kitchen…and we washed dishes by hand. Later, we rented a small house with a smaller kitchen…and we washed dishes by hand. A few years into our marriage, we were able to buy our first home. My first purchase was not a new couch, table ot bedroom suite. I was thrilled to buy a DISHWASHER! Now, twenty years (and three dishwashers) later, I just wish I could get someone to load the darn thing!
My splurge would be the gorgeous Circa Lighting Grosvenor fixture. Our apartment is so dark, and we have no fixture in either the kitchen or the entryway, just bare bulbs. This would REALLY light up my life!
A combination convection microwave oven in a stainless steel finish was our big splurge. We picked one that has warming capabilities too, so it is like having three appliances in one. We have a fully functional Thermador built-in electric oven and matching range-top in stainless steel that are original to the house. We still like the 1960s atomic inspired design, but considered an up-grade on these appliances. The problem was that we could not find a small oven that would fit in the existing odd cavity — and we had no desire to tear apart the rest of the kitchen to accommodate a larger one. The convection/micro does triple duty for us, and we are quire pleased with its integration with our older appliances. The Grosvenor pendant would be a handsome addition to our kitchen.
My splurge is good knives. This is kind of ironic, because sharp things and I are not usually a good combination – I’m kind of accident-prone. (My grandmother’s nickname for me was Grace, and I’m pretty sure she didn’t mean it in a good way, bless her heart.) But I’m sure we all know that dull knives are actually more dangerous, because you have to put more power behind each stroke, making it much more likely that your knife will slip. When I did finally get a very expensive all-purpose knife, it was a complete revelation. Food preparation was so much easier and quicker. Now I’d rather have one good knife than a drawer full of cheap ones. Sometimes the simple things make more of a difference than the big ones!
a container to hold all the kitchen utensils because it can be a big mess
My splurge is a good garbage disposal. It contributes to my successes and hides my disasters.
My favorite splurge in our kitchen was an 18″ dishwasher instead of the standard 24″ appliance. We have a small household, and it used to take what felt like forever for us to fill the old one. This model is also quieter, runs more efficiently, and saves more water too. Plus, I like the stainless steel finish that works well with our other appliances. With the left-over inches, we created a double level nook under the counter in matching walnut to go with our other cabinetry. The upper portion is used for our cutting boards, and the lower portion fits the baking and larger serving trays. Every bit of space counts in a tiny galley kitchen!
My splurge was putting colorful glass tiles as a backsplash for the sink in the kitchen. Even though it was a small area they were still pretty expensive but they were so beautiful! Now that area is a focal point for the kitchen and just brightens up the whole area.
My dream splurge is painting my cabinets that currently have stained finish and putting pulls on them that make sense with the style of the kitchen. If only…
My actual splurge is some super fancy knives that we got when we were married. Kitchen-grade knives make a huge difference in your life!
My kitchen is adequate and functional (okay, so not gorgeous lol!) so practically speaking I splurge on really good food. My grocery bill is high but I try to buy conscienciously. My budget is tight so our health is all we’ve got! Seriously though, if I were going to splurge on something fun it would be a gas range. I got so used to cooking with gas living in NYC and our house in SC has electric. I like how hot the burners get, but I haven’t gotten the knack of them yet.
My Viking cookware. One of the best purchases I made for my kitchen.
My kitchen splurge wasn’t for my own kitchen….my stepdaughter asked for a new toaster at Christmas, and knowing she loves lime green, I was excited when I saw a toaster with lime green trim! I then found other kitchen tools and even a cute hand towel with a lime-colored owl appliqued on it! It’s fun to splurge for someone else when you see a big smile on their face!
my ninja
A second oven!
just recently got a dishwasher…i do not like washing dishes. lol
My biggest and best splurge was getting a Bottom mount Refrigerator with a built-in Ice maker – this makes things so much easier for everyone; and keeps the freezer a little neater
When my husband fell and broke both his hip and wrist in October and had to have surgery on both, he could not shop for my Christmas present. He said, “get yourself something nice”. When I saw that one of the local stores had Kitchen Aide stand up mixers on sale, that was my splurge. I had wanted one for — like forever. So to celebrate we had a neighborhood cookie and wassail party with homemade cookies. Wonderful!!
My splurge would be a double oven but the one I could afford and got was a Kitchen-Aid mixer
My Splurge was my cookware set and my top of line knife set. Both are used everyday, I love them both!
My favorite kitchen splurge is my mini pie maker!! Why does everything seem so much better when it’s cute and mini? Well, I decided to buy it before Thanksgiving to make all these festive mini pies. Although, I have only pulled it out twice since then, it’s still a handy gadget to have on hand and is a great way to impress guests!
My splurge would be a kitchen remodel. It is a galley type and everyone wants to gather here when they come for holidays. There over 30 so you can see we need more space. I love having them but it does get a little crowded at times.
I had a large built-in breakfront made with glass doors for my collection of depression glass. I finally could store it in one place and it could be seen. Love hanging the cups from hooks, very retro.
Honestly, I know this sounds bad but I cannot think of a kitchen splurge. We bought a home built in the 50′s and unfortunately other than wallpaper, we haven’t been able to change a whole lot. Our fridge is even the original and stove too. Kinda scary!
Our biggest kitchen splurge is an ice machine. We never run out of ice and it is great for family gatherings and parties. As well as, filling up the cooler when we head out to a swim meet. Second splurge is a warming drawer. The warming drawer is so great at breakfast for keeping pancakes and waffles warm. Also, wonderful at dinner when I don’t have room in my oven for everything to finish at one time. Can’t decide which one I would give up if I had to choose. I would never have imagined I would want either one until I had them. Now I wonder what we did without them.
Splurge… simple FOOD a well stocked kitchen is the key to everything.
Favorite splurge? A new refridgerator even thought the old one is not broken! One with space where you need it and lots of light! One that is sleek and looks good! What other appliance is used EVERY day and yet often not replaced unless broken. That was a great splurge!
My splurge would be a double oven with a warming drawer.
A side by side stainless steel fridge would be a splurge for me. To have a fridge fulfills a need but this would be my dream fridge. Another splurge would be new curtains for the kitchen. We have the ones that came with the house. No complaints but the design on them is various types of bugs, not exactly what I want in the kitchen!
Aaliyah. although Dale`s blurb is impossible, last friday I got Buick since I been bringin in $7774 this-past/4 weeks and-also, ten thousand last munth. this is definitely the most financially rewarding I’ve had. I started this 4 months ago and pretty much straight away was bringing in over $86 per hour. I use this here great link………… http://qr.net/kat1
In desperate need of a new refrigerator, will have to splurge on one soon.
my george foreman was my favorite splurge..does more tan meat and I have lost a ton of weight thanks to healthier cooking
My favorite kitchen splurge is my Cuisinart Sandwich Maker — I can grill, use it as a griddle, and press any food so that I am draining the unhealthy grease (into a drip tray).
It has really helped me out when making a mundane sandwich into a piece of edible art!
cant aford to spluge
This is a simple spluge but favorite splurge….my sodastream. I love sparkling water but sure hated buying all the bottles and having to store and recycle them. Now I make my own super fizzy and flavor with anything I want.
Next splurge is new appliances……
gas cooktop
My splurge would be an island with a flat stove, bar stools, and pendant lighting.
