The outgoing mailbox is full here at Southern Living. Why? Today marks our first-ever Write a Thank-You Note Day. We’re putting pen to paper and getting behind the movement by sending notes of appreciation to everyone from next of kin to folks we barely know who have brightened our days in one way or another. After all, showing gratitude is a central pillar of Southern hospitality. And we’ll never tire of an excuse to show off some beautiful stationery or do something the old-fashioned way.
Here are the notes a few of our staff members are sending today:
Erin Street, Senior Travel Editor: “I’ve written a thank-you note to someone who was a great help on a story I produced for the April issue–Mike Ragsdale. Mike is the man behind 30a.com, and helped me find great insider tips for our “Secrets of the Gulf Coast” story. He helped us find the most deserted beaches, colorful kayaks, and coolest locals–the least I can do is write him a note.”
Hunter Lewis, Executive Editor: “I’m thanking the University of North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team for turning around their season and finishing strong. Bring on March Madness!”
Mary Elizabeth Davis, Production Manager: “My thank-you note is to my friend Jen for hosting a delicious supper club. She is the epitome of hospitality.”
(Psst: In addition to keeping everyone on deadline here at SL–how she does it we’ll never know–Mary Elizabeth is also our resident calligrapher. You can check out her work at memedavis.com.)
Now it’s your turn! Share in the good juju and send a thank-you note to someone who has shown you some kindness or helped make the world around us a better place. Tell us whom you’re thanking here and you could win a set of letterpress thank-you notes from Virginia-based SIMPLESONG DESIGN.
