Like great music? Love the beach? So do we! That’s why we are counting down the days to Hangout Music Festival, the biggest beachfront concert in the country, taking over Gulf Shores May 17-19. This year’s headliners include Gainesville-bred Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Stevie Wonder and Kings of Leon for three-days of live music by the sea. If you need any more excuses to pack your swimsuit, we are giving away one pair of general-admission, three-day passes to the festival.

Tell us what Southern band you are most looking forward to catching at the shows in the comments to enter to win.

Contest begins today and ends May 1. Official rules here.

I have always wanted to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers . They have been one of my favorite groups since I was a child. Government Mule’s soul shine is also one of my all time favorite songs. Seeing these acts along with other amazing artists would be a dream come true.

I would be most excited to be able to see Kings of Leon. Their music means so much to me and has helped me through hard times. I even have a tattoo in honor of them. I’m sure the kings will play some new tunes off of their unreleased album coming this fall and it would mean a lot to hear those songs for the first time. Other bands I would love to see would be The Weeks. I just bought their new album Dear Bo Jackson and it is amazing southern rock music. Those Mississippi boys really know how to jam. I of course would be thrilled to have the chance to see Tom Petty and the heartbreakers and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. My life is devoted to music so it would be an amazing privilege to win tickets to this festival. The lineup is perfection and it’s at the beach. Who doesn’t love that?

Tom Petty…because so many of his songs are about

I would LOVE to have the opportunity to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at this years festival! I’ve never been to the Hangout Music Fest but have tried harder than ever to win tickets this year! I “grew up tall and grew up right” listening to great southern rock with my dad, so when the weather’s nice I can’t help but roll my windows down and blare a classic like American Girl or You Don’t Know What it’s Like. Nothing would make me happier than winning tickets to this years festival and being able to relax right before starting my second semester of nursing school at Auburn University. I’m sure my dad wouldn’t mind getting an overwhelming amount of pictures of Petty from me either… 🙂

All of them of course! I am taking my 2 children ages 11 & 9 to the festival, this will be their first concert. I decided I wanted to expose them to live music with the right music. My kids love Kings of Leon (we are from Oklahoma) and I want them to see Stevie Wonder to see just how wonderful a muscian he is and they all are.

Tom Petty, Kings of Leon and Stevie Wonder are all iconic legends and terrific, but I have not seen them in person… to pick one as a favorite would not be possible. All the bands will be awesome, the location is awesome. The only thing that would make it more awesome is me being there……..

I am torn with this question! Both Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Kings of Leon are great bands. I’m really looking forward to attending this year and would be overjoyed to win a pair of tickets! !

Tom Petty, Kings of Leon and Stevie Wonder are AMAZING, since I haven’t saw them in person. I am sure the other will be awesome, because I like going to Music Festival at the beach.

There are so many great bands at this year’s Hangout fest and hopefully it will be my first time going if I can secure some tickets. I’m really looking forward to the headliners of course but if you dig deeper, there’s a lot of talent that will be playing in the daytime as well as at night. I’m really excited about Trey Anastasio Band since he’s the guitarist for one of my favorites, Phish. I’m also really excited about my first time seeing the Shins, Bloc Party, Passion Pit, moe, Gov’t Mule, Group Love, and Twenty One Pilots just to name a few.

I would most look forward to seeing the Kings of Leon as it is one of their only U.S shows they are doing this year. I am a HUGE fan and would love to see them live, especially with the release of their latest album this coming fall! Also seeing Passion Pit would be a great experience too. Gossamer is by far one of the most influencial albums in my life right now and dare I say it is flawless. The Weeks are another band I would absolutely love to see live. I have known about The Weeks since their first EP and I have watched them grow as artist but have never had the oppertunity to attend one of their shows. GROUPLOVE would be another band that I would look forward to seeing. Their music is so fun and has the perfect vibe for a beach concert! Imagine Dragons would also be another band that I would look forward to seeing along with Shovels and Rope, Ra Ra Riot, Best Coast and Gov’t Mule. To win these tickets would be the fullfillment of a music lovers dream!

My husband and I need tickets to The Hangout. We need music. We have a toddler and are busy with the day to day. If I hear the theme song to Bubble Guppies again… I might lose my sanity. We need some Tom Petty in our lives. We need to feel the sun on our skin, the sand on our feet, slow dance to “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” and release our inner festival child by jamming to “American Girl.” We’re still cool, right? My husband will be 40 this year. I will be 33. There is a little age gap, but this has always helped us both love the experience of one another’s music. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers has always been one of my husband’s favorites…even before he spent a few years living in Gainesville. Since we started dating back in 2003, I have embraced his favorite music. I love Tom Petty as much as he does. That being said, I will not be afraid to drag him around the festival to hear Grouplove, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jason Isbell, and everything else I want to hear. So, what do you say? Make us feel like we are cool again. Help us revive our inner festival child. Awaken our love of the beach, music, and our old wild souls.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, who doesn’t love their music! Steve Wonder, though not southern, on the beach = romance! THE BLACK CROWES are going to be amazing! Would love to see Gov’t Mule, Jason Isbell and Jim James, too! Last but not least southern family band Kings of Leon is a must see. The thing about a music festival is that you are introduced to musical artists that you didn’t know about and discover you love their sound.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are absolute icons. I grew up listening to their music (along with Tom’s solo career). Runnin Down a Dream, Learning to Fly, Mary Jane’s last dance… SOO many timeless songs. I’ve heard my kids listening to Free Fallin’ and other of Tom’s songs before (The same kids that really want to see “Thrift Shop”). My son had even told me about an exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that featured Tom Petty. It would be a dream come true to see them live, and fit in a mini vacation while we’re at it. I’m an American Girl Running Down a Dream. My friends will say: “You Got Lucky”, when I’m Free Fallin’ down to the Hangout Music Festival!
