We’ve all seen the posed shots with everyone in white shirts and khaki pants. You can do better, with these three expert tips.
1. Wear some color. White is the most difficult color to shoot. For other palette options, mix in corals, pinks, and navy, which photograph better than white and other shades similar to sand.
2. Shoot in early morning or late afternoon. You’ll get the best light to capture your subjects when the sun is close to the horizon. Be sure your brood stands with their backs to the sun, which will highlight their hair and shoulders and keep everyone from squinting.
3. Forget the awkward stiff shot. Pose American Gothic-style with surfboards instead of pitchforks, or line up all your flip-flops by size in the foreground, then frolic in the ocean in the background.
