As one of the most popular beach destinations for Southerners, we had to get the inside scoop on the best under-the-radar spots to hang like a local in the Florida Panhandle. We asked local artist Justin Lyons where he goes to get the best music, food, and beach time for our Summer in the South Florida Panhandle guide.
His itinerary for the perfect summer day is ideal for the water sport and Latin food enthusiast: Start with a morning surf session (the calm Gulf waters make surfing here beginner friendly). In the afternoon get lunch at Rincon Boricua, a Puerto Rican eatery in Fort Walton Beach. Before the sun sets it’s back to the water for a SUP (stand-up paddleboard) session—Justin gets his gear (and if needed, classes) from YOLO Board + Beach in Miramar Beach. End the day with a fresh sushi dinner at Camille’s at Crystal Beach, where the live music is as good as the food.
For more of Justin’s picks, along a calendar of events, the Southern summer playlist, and the cocktail you’ll be mixing up this season, check out our Summer in the South guide.
