As the grand opening of the Southern Living Idea House at Fontanel draws near the designers are waiting on a special delivery from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — fifteen pieces of colorful patient artwork to adorn the walls. At St. Jude, patients like Mae, our official Idea House ambassador, use art as a therapy allowing them to creatively express their feelings and emotions taking their mind off their treatment. This art is displayed throughout the hospital and now at our Idea House. Mae selected pieces that reflect messages of hope and depict the young patients’ favorite things: flowers, rainbows, sunshine, butterflies and animals. This artwork created by patients of all ages from across the country serves as a reminder of the hospital’s lifesaving work to everyone who tours the house.

Mae and her mom are looking forward to the grand opening next week. Plan your trip here
