Grumpy is so excited this morning, he’s already finished his second cup of pomegranate-blueberry juice! A select panel has combed through an extensive list of very excellent names for the newest addition to Ball Horticulture’s new Cool Wave pansy series. The winner — ‘Sunshine and Wine.’

Our thrilled-beyond-repair winner — Evelyn Scott of Savannah, Georgia. Yeah, I know we said we wouldn’t announce the winner until November, but we never imagined we’d receive so many imaginative (and commercially viable) entries to our contest. For her efforts, Evelyn will receive the valuable items listed below:

1. Miracle-Gro Potting Mix
2. Miracle-Gro All-Purpose Plant Food
3. Jobe’s Organic All-Purpose Fertilizer
4. A Corona spade
5. Garden gloves
6. Rubber garden boots
7. Fiskars Micro-tip Blades
8. A watering wand
9. Olive oil soap
10. Cutter Natural Insect Repellent
11. A water bottle
12. The new pansies shipped to her at the perfect time for planting!

AND THE BIGGEST PRIZE OF ALL

Look for ‘Sunshine and Wine’ in 2014
Since we just named it, ‘Sunshine and Wine Cool Wave pansy won’t be available this fall (except to Evelyn). But you can still plant the other Cool Wave pansies that Grumpy likes because of their weather tolerance, abundance of flowers, low height, and ability of one plant to spread two feet wide! Getting them in the ground now means flowers this fall, flowers this winter (in mild areas of the South anyway), and flowers next spring.
