Growing up my dad would always leave to work before I got up for school. Every Valentine’s Day I would walk into the kitchen to find a card that he had picked out himself that always said the sweetest sentiments. There would also be a box of my most recent favorite sweet treat. The cards were always perfect and I have saved them all. Some Valentine’s Days I had a boyfriend and others I did not, but I always knew that my dad loved me and that I was important to him on the day we show others that we care about them.

The best Valentine’s Day gift that I gave was a vacation to Tahiti to my now husband when we were in graduate school.

Valentine’s Day 1998 I received my most memorable gift…my engagement ring. I don’t think any other gifts will ever top that one. Nothing more romantic than the man you love telling you he loves you and he wants to spend the rest of his life with you!

When my, now fiance, was saving money to go back to school to get his MSW, he painted and framed a watercolor of the first plant we ever purchased together. I was upset that it had died after 2 years of our TIC and he happened to have painted it in his personal sketch pad. He had been a Jr. high art teacher for the part 5 years before he decided to go into art therapy. It was just a little cactus, but to me it was sort of a symbol of our time together. The sweetest gifts don’t have to cost alot. We are still living off my modest salary, but we are both creative and love to find enjoy out of the small things in life.

Love is all around us! Each day I receive so many gifts of love and affirmation. Valentine’s Day has always been special in our family. When we were little, there were always treats at our places, and then as we grew those treats would come via the mail. The cards are always my favorites! Sweet words and something I have saved over the years.

The anticipation of Valentine’s Day consumed me for several days before its arrival. When it finally came I was handed a box. I tore into it to find another box, and another; and another? Inside the box were a key and a note. The note claimed my southern paradise awaited and would include sunsets, beaches, and the love of my life. My best Valentine’s gift was paradise that started with a random key in a box. Take me back to those Georgia Beaches where it all began.

The best valentines day gift I ever received was actually a day or two before valentines day. He wanted me to be surprised. Had a personal masseuse at home waiting for me. Along with my favorite snacks and champagne. After that he made me a five course meal, which was very yummy then we snuggled up and watched my favorite movie. I received tangible gifts as well but this was the highlight and the most memorable.

I made a cheesecake from scratch. It took me two days (don’t ask). It was straight from the heart and tasted heavenly.
