Come Friday, thousands of swimsuit-clad music lovers will descend upon the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, to rock along the sandy shores at one of the most important music festivals in the South that has been garnering national attention since its inception five years ago. This year, 70-plus bands will perform on three different stages with headliners The Black Keys, The Killers, Jack Johnson, and Southern boys from Atlanta: Big Boi and Andre 3000 of Outkast. This summer’s lineup is chock-full of crooners that we’re proud to claim as Southern, from rap to techno to a little bit of country. Southern Living will be there, armed with sunscreen and a camera, to capture all of the magical moments that Hangout Music Fest is famous for. To mark its fifth year, here are the five Southern bands that we’re most excited to see take the stage.
The Southern swooners of rock: NEEDTOBREATHE
The soulful singer firmly planted in roots music: Valerie June
The bluesy Tennessee rockers: The Black Cadillacs
The alternative indie-rock group hailing from Texas: The Tontons
