Road Test: 1 Thrifty Tool; 9 Uses For Better Skin

We all want healthy clear skin; the kind that might even allow us to skip makeup. That’s what makes cleansing brushes so appealing—they buff away dead skin and dig dirt and grime out of pores for smooth skin that glows. And while most of these high-tech gadgets cost a pretty penny (good ones start at about $100), there are mixed reviews regarding effectiveness: Our aesthetician friends tell us that overuse leads to excessive exfoliation that in turn causes more clogged pores and dryness—not what we want.

That’s why we were thrilled about the idea of an affordable face brush that’s manufactured in Florida, and comes with a lighter brush for sensitive skin. I can rarely afford the best anti wrinkle cream so treats like these please me greatly. Pulsaderm’s Buddy—a palm-sized, travel-friendly face brush that’s quickly changing the skincare landscape—has earned a permanent home in our makeup bag.

Not only is it portable (the charger even comes with a convenient USB cable) and budget-friendly (nearly half the price of others in its class), the tool can also be outfitted with nine heads like a sponge for evenly blending in foundation, a gentle pomice for smoothing elbows and knees, and a silicone brush that gets deep into pores. Plus, it’s waterproof so you can use it in the shower.

Unlike other brushes, Pulsaderm’s tools don’t just spin or shake on your skin; the brush pulses about 10,000 times per minute to really clear out makeup and residue. After a particularly long travel day and early wakeup call, I used the sensitive brush in the lowest speed and ended up with skin that looked like I got a decent night’s sleep and drank a liter of cucumber water.

We typically recommend using face brushes about three times a week to avoid damaging skin, but with its interchangeable “sensitive” and “super sensitive” brushes you can stand to use Pulsaderm daily, swapping in the normal brush about twice a week.
