i actually just built my dream home! the entry way is simple. a nice wide porch accented with black trim to set the gray brick off. the door is stained dark with a beveled glass star (I live in the lone star state) and as you step inside you are greeted by the spacious living room with hardwood floors and a vast window view of our huge oaks and pond in the back yard. there is a niche right inside the door for guests to hang their coats before entering the living room.

Entering my dream home is like walking into a pair of welcoming arms – warm light, fresh flowers, spicy scent and calming colors.

My ideal entry way starts on the front porch with a couple of comfortable rocking chairs and a table in between to put your sweet ice tea and cookies. Then when you enter the house there would be a church pew style bench for relaxing & taking your shoes off and a side table and mirror for keys & last minute touch ups. Their would always be fresh flowers, preferably something like hydrangeas from my yard decorating the side table and guests would always feel at home.

Brick pavers for the floor, a cool rustic & industrial chandelier, and a large mirror with family pictures hangs on one side. On the other side is a beautiful original wood staircase that leads up to the family bedrooms. Past the small wall with the mirror and pictures is the large open family room. All very warm, and inviting to our community!

Walking up the wide steps to our 15 room Victorian home, you will see filmy curtains slightly blowing in the spring wind. Enveloped within these, you will smile at the gracious setting for a tea on the ‘veranda’ with long-time friends. Rocking chairs and an old fashioned wooden glider are made comfortable with bright floral pillows. Two tables grace the space just right for setting your dainty teacups and tea cakes upon. As dusk approaches you realize the one area that has been neglected–the lighting! Quickly you take out your ‘to do’ list and jot down, purchase a copper electric lantern, by Carolina Lanterns. With that reminder you return to the jovial conversation with your guests.

My dream entry has a large table with beautiful objects of art, and a place to put the day’s mail and keys. It has a bench to allow you to sit to remove shoes and place a handbag or shopping bag. An antique mirror hangs above the table for last minute touch ups. An antique rug sits on the floor.
