    A hot shower, with some bath and body works sleep apothocary scrub and soap. Then sitting on the couch watching a nighttime show of mine while drinking some sweet honey tea. After the show is done I like to check outside on the deck to look up at the stars and think of how the day went next to the man I love. Then we lock the doors, brush our teeth, kiss the babies goodnight and hop into bed. One thing we never forget is to live by the sign in our room no matter how mad at each other we are, to “always kiss goodnight” and then we relax and fall asleep.

    I usually go downstairs and make a Sleepytime Herbal Tea, kiss my hubby and the puppy, snuggle down with a good book until my tea is gone. Some prayer and out like a light.

    After dinner and the shared kitchen cleanup, I start my downtime for the evening in my pjs and robe, usually having a “date night” of TV watching with my hubby. During the commercial breaks, I flip through magazines, including Southern Living, stopping to read articles of interest, or just looking at pictures for ideas for our home or potential road trips. We are thankful for our time together and for being able to relax and enjoy each other’s company in our home without the need for bright lights and nights out!

    Wash my face, pat dry then moisturize. Share a bedtime story with our littlest one. Ending with a goodnight kiss….all is well.

    First I shower, then I prop up my pillows and read my bible while my hair drys. When my husband comes in I fold the sheets over our mattelasse, snuggle him as tight as I can, because he says he can’t sleep otherwise, then we rest.

    Reading in bed always transitions into a relaxing state of mind that automatically drifts to sleep. When I find myself nodding, I turn off the light, place pillow between knees to support back, and easily fall right to sleep.

    I was looking at some Norman Rockwell paintings of children kneeling by their beds. I now take the opportunity to kneel down at my bed before retiring- contemplate the day, reflect on what’s important and focus on being appreciative for what I have….. it seems ‘old school’, but Im telling you, the act of being on your knees really allows me to focus. vintage ‘zen’.—-then off to sleep.

    I write down my to-do list and reminders for the next morning, so I can stop thinking about them and let my mind stop racing. Then I put on my sleep mask, which has become like a trigger to my body to go to sleep! Finally, if I’m jet-lagged or have to get up much earlier than normal (and, accordingly, have to go to bed earlier than usual), I sometimes take 1mg of melatonin to make it easier to fall asleep but avoid the grogginess I get from sleep aids.

    A quick shower using cucumber melon shower gel in spring, coconut in summer and vanilla in winter as they always set the mood. Snuggle up close to my husband, fluff up the pillow and read poetry, sometimes romantic, sometimes funny, sometimes whimsical. Always a Kiss goodnight !

    A warm shower seems to help me relax before bedtime. I also love fresh linens on the bed. I seem to sleep better with freshly laundered sheets. If not recently laundered I cheat and use a really great linen spray from Stonewall Kitchens. It contains lemon and herbs and makes everything smell fresh without being too overwhelming.

    Recently purchased a firmer mattress, upgraded linens to larger thread count. About an hour before bed lower lights, thermostat set on 65, linens pulled down, brush teeth, floss, give a10 -15 minute scalp to toe massage,on the floor in the den to Phil, my husband of 38 years, cuddled up to our shih-tzu, watching a recorded ‘Gunsmoke’ fall asleep, about an hour later Phil gets into bed, we thank Our Heavenly Father for all our many blessings. He goes back to sleep. I go back to the den, box of cookies in hand, and fall asleep on my Lazy-boy. *_*
