Come September, end-of-summer blues kick in fast. The long Labor Day weekend passes by before you really wish to say “so long” to leisurely days out in the sun, and a busy fall schedule seems to be on everyone’s mind. If you’re anything like me, you’re still craving one more beach escape to squeeze in before the season ends. And besides that, your hearty appetite for seaside seafood isn’t going away anytime soon.
Thankfully, here in the South, we don’t have to bid farewell to summer (and fresh-caught coastal cuisine) just yet. We’re gearing up for one more weekend of warm weather bliss at The Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 20. This year marks the festival’s 10th anniversary – a free three-day weekend packed with entertainment, craft brew tastings, cooking competitions and demos, artisan vendors and live music. And of course, there will be enough shrimp and grits to fill up to your plate’s (and tastebuds’) content.
Join us as we cheer to a last summer hoorah on one of Georgia’s picturesque sea islands. We’ll be there at the Southern Living pavilion along with Nashville chef Matt Moore, author of A Southern Gentleman’s Kitchen, and Buffy Hargett, our Senior Photo Stylist and entertaining guru. We’re even bringing along a few famous songwriters straight out of Music City for an evening of tunes under the oaks. You won’t want to miss the chance to meet-and-greet these talented Southerners, while taking in all of Jekyll’s historic and seaside beauty.
