Each week, we’re bringing you top tips, favorite products, and Q&A’s with the designers in our Coastal Living and Southern Living Designer Network.
Tip 1, buy what you love: Buy what speaks to you and don’t worry about trends. Your art will become part of the personality of your home, so you don’t need to collect art from just one style or genre.
Tip 2, be open to art in all forms – not just paintings: Sculpture is a great way to enhance a space that doesn’t have a lot of wall space for hanging art. Mixing artistic mediums and types adds interest and possibility.
Tip 3, don’t be afraid to mix the old with new: Worried about modern artwork being displayed with your collectibles and inherited pieces? Don’t be. Mix it up and you’ll bring out your home’s true character.
Tip 4, art can go anywhere and everywhere: Put art in unexpected places. Hang in front of windows, over a door or propped on a counter. Use all your wall space for your art collection – there is nothing wrong with hanging it all the way to the ceiling!
