Almost 20 years ago, my mom and her friend Susan Ozburn started a supper club where each lady would prepare a dish from that month’s issue. (Though sometimes they cheat and bring favorites from past issues.) Together, they’ve shared joys and sorrows: marriages of children and births of grandchildren; cancer; divorce; turning 60; and moving to their dream homes. They’re a prime example of Southern women who value friendships, food, and fellowship. When my mom hosts, she always invites daughters and daughters-in-law so they can pass along their traditions to the next generation. —Amy Carmichael, Dacula, Georgia
