Grumpy has put his nose to the grindstone for the last several months, addressing all of your gardening concerns in a prompt and other-worldly manner. Now it is time for a break. This week, I’m enjoying a vacation of skiing, beer, snowshoeing, beer, canoeing, beer, hiking, and beer. Guess where I am.
Bend, Oregon. It’s the outdoor sports capital of the Pacific Northwest. Just about any outdoor activity you like to do in any season you can do here. And in a state that rightly crows about its thriving craft beer industry, Bend bills itself as Beer Town USA for having more craft breweries per capita than any other city in Oregon. How will I spend my free time?
However, I do plan on engaging in some serious horticulture in Bend. You may be aware that Oregon is one of the few states where cannabis is legal. Bend boasts 16 dispensaries for medical and recreational cannabis. Although I do not approve of the irresponsible consumption of this weed, I feel it is my duty to investigate this industry in case it becomes legal where you live. I’ll post updates on my Grumpy Gardener Facebook page to keep you informed.
In the meantime, keep sending in those photos of crepe murder for Grumpy’s Crepe Murder 2016 Contest. Winners receive a signed copy of The New Southern Living Garden Book. Email your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Crepe Murder 2016” in the subject line. The deadline for submissions is February 16.
