With only a few short months until the grand opening of the 2016 Idea House, we will be updating you weekly with behind-the-scenes sneak peeks and Q&As with the team.

We are thrilled to introduce you to our 2016 Idea House developer: The Town of Mt Laurel! We chatted with Julianna Vance of Mt Laurel on what makes this community the perfect setting for this year’s Idea House.

SL: Tell us a little bit about Mt Laurel.

JV: Mt Laurel is a traditional community that is master planned in concert with nature. Nestled behind Double Oak Mountain on the edge of Birmingham, Alabama, Mt Laurel was planned by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, the originators of the New Urbanism movement and has been crafted to preserve the beautiful landscape of the area. Our homes are inspired by classic American architecture and seamlessly built with modern touches to align with the desires of today’s families.

Mt Laurel is a walkable community, featuring a Town Center with shops and restaurants, two schools, civic buildings, a private 11-acre mountain lake for swimming and fishing, community pool, dog park, hiking trails, tennis courts, and plentiful parks and green spaces. Mt Laurel attracts those that want to live more fully.

SL: Mt Laurel prides itself on fostering a strong sense of community. What makes living in Mt Laurel so special?

JV: There’s a true community in Mt Laurel, and that was always the goal. Welcoming front porches and wide, 5-foot sidewalks line the streets, encouraging neighborly interactions and walks to the town’s amenities. In the morning, you’ll often see neighbors socializing when walking their kids to one of the two schools located on property, or running into one of the Town Center’s restaurants for coffee, or meeting at the lake to cast a fishing line. We have several residents that work in the Town Center, so you can really live, work, and play here. Mt Laurel is unique because there are many opportunities to get to know your neighbors, and that lifestyle builds a strong sense of community.

SL: What are you most looking forward to about the Idea House?

JV: I am excited to have so many people experience our remarkable community. I think people who have not been to Birmingham will be blown away by how beautiful it is here, and will appreciate Mt Laurel’s commitment to preserving the natural landscape.  The design and finishes of the Idea House are outstanding. Working with top designers from around the country and a nationally renowned architect has been a phenomenal opportunity for our community. I can’t wait for Southern Living’s readers to see the finished result.

The June issue of Southern Living magazine states the dates to visit the 2016 Idea House is June 25 – December 18, 2016. I can find no other information regarding the visitation on the above website.
Could you please give me the street address of this house or address of parking area for visitation so I can input in my GPS? Also, what are the hours the house open each day and what days of the week the house is closed for visitation (if any)? Thank you for a prompt reply.
