7 Tailgate Giveaway, Week 3: YETI Package from Water + Oak

Raise your pom poms, Southerners – it’s time for football in the South! Give us a Saturday,  the SEC, and a tall glass of sweet tea (or bourbon) and you can find us at the tailgate, cheering on our favorite teams. In honor of this fall tradition, we’re going to be giving away items every Wednesday that’ll take your tailgate party-throwin’ to the next level.

There are few things more infuriating than getting to a game and realizing your ice has melted and your tea’s gone warm. We feel ya, folks. Thankfully, this awesome package from our friends at Water and Oak Outdoor will guarantee that this nightmare won’t happen to you; they’ve got some killer YETI gear to give away.

One winner will get a YETI Hopper 20 Soft Cooler (the newest cooler to the YETI family), one Rambler 30-ounce tumbler, one Rambler 20-ounce tumbler, one Rambler 10-ounce Lowball, and one Rambler Colster.  So, whatever you’re sipping on – it’ll stay cold until your rookie quarterback throws a 60-yard touchdown.

What’s your favorite drink to mix up on Game Day? Tell us in the comments below for a chance to win. Official rules here.

My family has three favorite drinks that we like to mix up on game day! The first one is a Pina Colada recipe handed down though 3 generations in our family. You mix 12 ounces of sweetened coconut milk and 24 ounces of pineapple juice together. Then combine 2 parts fruit juices to 1 part rum. Mix up well and then pour over a glass of ice to serve!

The next one is a delicious Spice Tea recipe that’s super easy to make! First you pour 2 quarts of boiling water over 8 small tea bags. Steep for 5 minutes then remove the bags and add 4 cups of sugar and 4 cups of water. Next add 2 small cans of frozen orange juice, 4 cups of pineapple juice and the juice of 6 lemons. Mix well as you add 12 more cups of water. This recipe make 2 gallons and you can serve it hot or cold. If any of your tailgating guest would like their tea “spiked” you could offer a little rum on the side! 🙂 We are so lucky because our neighbor allows us to use some of their Meyer lemons from the tree in their backyard to make our tea!

My last recipe to share is a favorite of the younger kids once we get into the cooler weather games and it’s a Hot Chocolate drink! Mix up in a large covered container in advance: 2 pounds of Nestle’s Quick, 11 ounces of Coffee-Mate, 1 box of powdered milk (8Qt) and 1 pound of powdered sugar. On game day mix up in each person’s cup 4 heaping teaspoons to a cup of hot water. My family and friends love to get together on the weekends in the fall to cheer on our favorite high school or college teams. All the men love to grill different meats to go with all the delicious side dishes the women bring to share! It doesn’t really matter if the team were rooting for wins or looses because the best part of tailgating for us is spending time with those we love! 😉

On a sweltering early September day, our tailgate always features an ice-cold brew choice and a Paloma margarita–I tell you, it is hard to beat something as refreshing as grapefruit juice and tequila when it’s 100 in the shade. But since we consider ourselves to be a professional tailgate crew, we like to switch up our menu once sweater-weather hits. A favorite for us includes Bourbon Cider cocktails, which we warm up in a cast iron pot on our tailgate grill, complete with a garnish of local apple! Sounds fancy, but it strikes the perfect balance when you sip it while sitting in the back of a truck! 🙂

A Martharita, which is my friend, Martha’s version of a Margarita. She makes this special potion for many of her events and fall game days are no exception. These Martharita’s have come to be known far and wide among her circle of friends or wanna be friends for their deliciousness and potency!!!! One of them can have me singing and/or dancing but they go down so smoothly. Game day or any lazy football Saturday or Sunday, I’ll have what she’s making………Martharita’s here we come!

I keep it simple with bourbon and ginger. If I want to mix it up a little fresh strawberries and basil add a refreshing flavor and color to the drink.

At Virginia Tech we love a good “Hokie Pokie”. Combine OJ and vodka, and mix with a red popsicle. It turns orange and maroon! Go Hokies!
