Imagine an alfresco Sunday supper atop a historic bridge at sunset with the fall foliage gleaming. Music and laughter surround you. Glasses are filled with great wine and craft beer. You’re seated with a thousand of your newest friends and the very best the fall season has to offer.
This is the Gervais Street Bridge Dinner above the Congaree River between Columbia, West Columbia and Cayce, SC. It’s a modern Southern supper of such extraordinary scale that you enjoy one meal in three cities in the span of a quarter mile for four hours. Hosted by Friends of Soda City, the nonprofit foundation attached to Columbia’s weekly Soda City Market, the dinner is a celebration of Southern culture, community and food benefitting Congaree Riverkeeper, Canoeing for Kids, Harvest Hope Food Bank and Heroes in Blue.
Pulling off a fete like this requires a small army of culinary talent from both sides of the river. Scott Hall, Rise Gourmet Goods & Bakeshop, Spotted Salamander, Good Life Café, River Rat Brewery and Indah Coffee – just to name a few – will all participate. Kristian Niemi of Bourbon and Josh Streetman of Motor Supply Co. Bistro will be mixing up craft cocktails. All of this is to say that it will be one delicious evening!
Not surprisingly, tickets are going quickly. Get yours and make plans to FALL in love with Columbia this October!
