Everyone and everything looks best in candlelight. And, candles add a special touch to holiday dining. Subtle flecks of glitter add extra sparkle to these hand-rolled beeswax candles from Vicksburg, Mississippi candlemaker, La Petite Abeille which we featured in November’s Southern Made.
Around here we loving fussing about creating super special table settings. So for the holidays, we go all out. This year we created our very own 16-piece holiday dinnerware set The Southern Living Holiday Branch Dinnerware by Ballard Designs (retails for $139)! We commissioned Maryland-based botanical artist Meg Page to illustrate the greenery that adorns each dish.
There’s only one piece of mail that trumps the obligatory thank you card in the South — the holiday card. Admit it, one of the best parts of the holidays is seeing everyone’s Christmas photo card. It’s like a who’s who of holiday well-wishers.
No Southern dining room is fully decorated without a pair of candlesticks. That’s why we featured these hand-cast, $95/each pewter candlesticks from Louisiana, Missouri’s ASL Pewter in November’s Southern Made. ASL also let us in on a little-known, pewter secret. Pewter doesn’t tarnish as quickly as silver. Less work, equal shine, we’re pewter fans over here!
Leave it to Virginia natives-turned-Brooklyn hipsters to come up with the most spirited take yet on the endlessly useful Mason jar: a cocktail shaker. Everyone here at Southern Living is all shook-up over the Mason Shaker, featured in the Holiday Gift Guide in our December issue. It’s festive, practical and super-Southern. We’ll drink to that!
The ice cream social just got even more charming—and less messy—with colorful containers lined with alloy to keep the cool treat from melting. These cheery tubs from Lunares hold a standard pint of ice cream and were featured in our December issue’s Holiday Gift Guide.
