For our July issue we got to chat with one of our favorite new shoe designers, Blake Vaigneur of Rowen, based in Charleston, South Carolina. Growing up in a fashion-minded household, Blake learned the value of fashionable wares that deliver on style and comfort by helping run his family’s Copper Penny women’s boutiques.

Blake, a Clemson grad, worked the sales floor at Cooper Penny for years. He founded Rowen to make to make the kind of shoes he couldn’t find on the market: high quality, gorgeous designs you can wear all day and night.

“My girlfriend test drives every new design,” he says. “Besides just looking good, we have to make sure they are walkable.” We can attest to that. In fact, just the week our photo editor, Jeanne Clayton (a women who spends a lot of time running around), was sporting one of Rowen’s stacked platform wedges.

Choose from colorful flats in shades such as mint (Blake’s chosen “it” color for the season); leather spiked heels with memory foam insoles for extra danceability; and striped espadrille flats for days spent strolling through cobblestoned Southern towns.

You can snag a pair of Blake’s shoes online or at Belk stores (Blake was one of the department store’s winners for their first Southern Designer Showcase contest). Prices from $49.
