We’ve added Beth Parker of Seerksucker + Saddles to our readers. Reason #1, she says things like: “Stripes and leopard are neutrals in my book.” Boom. We sat down with Beth during a recent visit to Lexington, Kentucky to learn more about her blog, her city, and her take on Southern style:

Hometown and where you live now: Jupiter, Florida hometown and currently reside in Lexington, KY

Why did you start Seersucker + Saddles? I’ve always been a very creative person and lover of all things fashion. s + s is  where I express my personal style and feed that creative outlet I crave in my life. If it provides inspiration for others, well that’s just icing on an already delicious cake!

Who are your style influences? I wouldn’t be a native Floridian if I didn’t say Lilly Pulitzer is a definite influence–I believe she put vibrant colors and prints on the map.  Not to mention, I feel transported back home when I wear a Lilly piece.  Miranda Kerr, Olivia Palermo nail it every time–every time–they have insane street style.  I love Emma Stone’s red carpet style–such girly glam.

A fellow southerner, Reese Witherspoon has great mom on the go style–just hip enough but not trying to hard (as a mom of two I appreciate that). The girl loves stripes, which are also a fave of mine. Fellow bloggers also provide boatloads of inspiration.

How do you describe your style? If I had to classify my style, I would say “feminine tomboy with a small dose of glam.”  I adore color–neutrals are lovely, but color suits my personality more. Stripes and leopard are neutrals in my book. As a mom who is watching a budget, I invest my money in classic pieces that I will get a good return on my investment (ie:  wear a ton)–that means handbags, shoes, jeans, and classic jewels.

I love a good ol’ high/low mix of a designer handbag, maybe a Gap dress, and Chuck Taylors.  I believe you absolutely can mix Target and DVF–that’s what style is all about–taking pieces you love, whether they’re designer or not, and making them your own.  I find that to be more original than head-to-toe high-end. Don’t forget about vintage, which has a fab price tag, is unique, and allows you to make pieces individual to your style and taste.

What’s on your “must-buy” list right now? My Splurge List consists of: Rag and Bone Harrow Booties and the Saint Laurent Y Ligne Clutch Bag in Red. I had the Michael Kors Miranda Bag on my list but that is now crossed off as she maaaayyy have just been delivered to my house!

Other “must buys”  some silky blouses (Think Equipment or J.Crew Blythe), a leather watch (Love the Michael Kors Double Wrap Runway Watch), and a few new blazers (Zara and J.Crew have some of my faves)

Tell us about Lexington style: Last week I was at Thursday Night Live,  a downtown festival with music and good eats, and was so impressed by the looks. Lots of prep, including high-waisted shorts, some feminine boho lovelies with flowy dresses and flats, and a little bit of urban thrown in there by UK students. In Lexington, for the most part, you’ll see polished, prep, and classic, but there’s definitely an edge here and there.

How do you define Southern style? I think it’s playful, feminine, rustic, girly, fresh, and unique.  I love that us Southerners love color and prints. I love that it’s preppy. I love that it’s feminine and glamorous all wrapped up in one!

Tell us about one style blogger who is always on your reader: Bradley Agather of Luella & June–She is so spot-on always whether it’s her own personal style or her favorite picks–I just adore her laid back, feminine vibe.

Your turn: What Southern fashion and beauty bloggers do you love?
