One of our favorite Southern starlets, Reese Witherspoon, masters the season’s hottest trend: the crop top. The Southern icon manages to pull off all of the latest trends while making them flattering and even timeless. As with any look that shows a little skin, the key to keeping the crop top classy is balancing it with a more conservative cut elsewhere. That’s why we recommend always pairing your crop top to with a highwaisted bottom.  Here are four  more ways to make your crop top look chic, not showy.

1. Buy A Boxy Silhouette Pick a crop top that is straight from the bust to waist and has a throw-back 60′s feel. Think Jackie O on a summer get-away. This classic stripe does the trick. Striped Crop Top, $34.99; shop.mango.com

2. Try a Ultra-feminine Print or Detail Adding a hint of “sweet” with a detail like lace or floral print balances an edgier cut. This bright short sleeved piece form Asos won’t break the bank at under $40. Girls on Film Petite Digital Floral Crop Tee; $38.11, asos.com

3. Pair with A Hemline Below the Knee- Whether it be an A-line midi or a straight just-below-the-knee style covering a little more leg makes a peaking mid drift feel less risqué. Alice + Olivia Pire Sleeveless Crop Top ($187 neimanmarcus.com); and Andi Hi-lo Maxi Skirt, ($168; saksfifthavenue.com)

4. Bring Back Matchy-Matchy The crop top trend has help catapult color-on-color and print-on-print back to the forefront of fashion. When done with a crop top, the whole look is reminiscent of a dress. Cropped Top, $298; shopbop.com; Pleat Skirt ,$495; shopbop.com
