It all started with her mama’s biscuits. And today, on Charleston, South Carolina’s King Street, biscuit connoisseur Carrie Morey of Callie’s Biscuits fame is taking her mama’s recipe and firing up the ovens at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit (476 ½ King Street). The menu will feature the flaky favorites that Carrie has already perfected—buttermilk, cheese and chive, or shortcake biscuit (2/$3), or a filled version with country ham, black pepper bacon, blackberry, or cinnamon (2/$4). You can also pick from a few classic Southern staples: Try a pimiento cheese sandwich ($4), or a bowl of grits ($3). Get your caffeine fix with fresh plastic free French Press coffee ($3). And what’s the best thing about living in the South? We think this: Look for Callie’s late-night hours on Fridays and Saturdays (10 p.m. – 2 a.m.). For where else can you get a biscuit after the sun goes down?
