What it Takes to Create Southern Living’s Biggest Home Issue

Our August issue is all about homes. We spent time in New Orleans photographing renovated homes in the Old Ninth Ward as part of our annual Home Awards feature, and visited with designer Bunny Williams, who helped design our Idea House in Charlottesville, Virginia. Here are some of our favorite behind-the-scene photos from one of our most anticipated issues of the year.

The owners of this home in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward call it the Sunset House because you can see the sunset over the levee from the backyard.

The New Orleans homes are great, but I’m completely at a loss as far as understanding the interior design for the Charlottesville home. I really try to avoid negative comments, but the only word that comes to mind is “discordant.” Sorry. maybe it’s something lacking on my end.
