Sometimes difficult experiences can inspire beautiful things. When Jacqueline Skeens Cavender lost her mother to cancer, she set to work on a cookbook that would raise awareness and funds for those facing their own battle with the disease. This is a fight her father, Russell Skeens, now wages. As The Spur Stirs features a collection of recipes from Cavender’s family, friends and celebrity supporters including Grammy-award winner Celine Dion, First Lady Laura Bush, country singer Pat Green, “King of Country” George Strait, model Kathy Ireland and actor Dennis Quaid, to name a few. “This book is filled with so much more than just recipes. What we’ve stirred up together is a testament to the ways we are all interconnected through something as simple as sharing time in the kitchen with loved ones. Maybe we can help those battling cancer and cystic fibrosis so that, they too, will have a chance to leave their own legacy behind for others,” says Cavender. All proceeds benefit The American Cancer Society and Cystic Fibrosis (CF). You can order your copy at www.asthespurstirs.com.
